About

The High-Performance Network Planning Laboratory (LPRAD) is a laboratory associated with the FCT of the Institute of Technology (ITEC) of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA).

LPRAD is the first state-of-the-art laboratory in telecommunications network technologies in the Amazon region. It carries out activities related to the various network technologies (wired and wireless) from a planning perspective in order to optimize performance. Through the use of modeling and simulation tools it is possible to model a network in a complete way with all equipment. Through simulation, it is possible to identify problems that may be occurring with these networks (dropped connections, slowness, bottlenecks, etc.), situations of inappropriate use and to propose improvement strategies for them. It is important to note that all projects developed by the laboratory already take into account the requirements for information security.

The laboratory has a team of 06 doctoral researchers, 11 doctoral students, 04 master students and 04 graduate students. And it maintains partnerships with public and private institutions, such as: CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel), SEDECT (State Secretariat for Science and Technology Development), FAPESPA (Foundation Research Support of the State of Pará), Prodepa, Eletronorte, Rede Celpa and Ericsson.

Areas of expertise

The laboratory has a group that performs activities related to Digital TV technology, whose objective is to investigate tools to support the standardization of the Brazilian Digital TV System (SBTVD), as well as the development of applications and the study of access technologies that provide support for the study of the Interactive Digital TV System.

In addition, it also develops projects related to the software development area. With a team with extensive experience in modeling, developing and deploying software, whose activities are aligned as they define best practices established in the market, always with technological innovation as the main differential.

Another area of activity of LPRAD is related to the infrastructure of Internet services, where it is possible to dimension servers and other network assets with definition of hardware and software needs for the implementation of these services. Linked to this, there is also the logical installation and configuration of Internet applications, mainly those based on free software.

It also carries out consultancy in information security, through assessments and penetration tests in Internet systems, detecting possible points that may compromise the security of company data. Through these analyzes, a plan is created that outlines the main measures that can be taken to increase the level of information security. From this plan, security policies are implemented.
